Frequently-Asked Questions
Why should my school purchase Next Navigator?
While the national focus has been on the shift to the Common Core State Standards, the larger challenge will be preparing students for success on the next generation assessments. These new assessments will be fundamentally different from the current state assessments in that they will be performance-based. Your students will need to demonstrate their ability to function in Quadrant D by thinking in complex ways and applying their skills when confronted with perplexing, complicated problems. To bridge the gap between the current state assessments and the next generation assessments, Next Navigator will support your instructional leaders and teachers in planning instruction that prepares students for these new requirements.
Is there any additional support available for using Next Navigator?
Yes, schools interested in Next Navigator are encouraged to provide staff with an orientation on how to use the tool. For schools looking for more comprehensive support, contact the International Center for more information on job-embedded instructional coaching.
What is a workspace?
A workspace is the area where teachers have the option to either edit an existing sample next generation assessment or create a next generation assessment on their own. Teachers complete the fields in the workspace to design the performance task as well as the student print page.
How do I create a new workspace?
On the Work Spaces tab, select “Create a New Workspace” link on the left hand taskbar. The corresponding screen will open and guide you through the steps to create your next generation assessment.
What is the "print student view"?
The sample next generation assessments can be printed and used with existing lessons. The sample NGAs can be printed in entirety and shared with colleagues. The “print student view” includes the title, task and scoring guide and can be distributed directly to the students.
What is "save as" at the top of the exemplar NGA?
“Save as” allows you to save the next generation assessment into your workspaces. You can then edit the assessment for the needs of your students.
